Call for Papers: Contribute to the JMET Special Issue on Green and Autonomous Vessel Concepts

  • 10/07/2026

Researchers, engineers and innovators working on the future of maritime transport are invited to submit their latest research to the Journal of Marine Engineering & Technology (JMET) Special Issue, “Advances towards the Seamless Design, Approval and Operation of Green and Autonomous Vessel Concepts.”

As the maritime sector accelerates its digital and green transition, the development of autonomous and sustainable vessel concepts is transforming the way ships are designed, certified and operated. While these innovations offer significant opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and environmental performance, they also require new engineering methodologies, robust cyber-physical systems, and updated approaches to testing, approval and operation.

This Special Issue provides a dedicated forum for high-quality research addressing these emerging challenges, with a particular focus on engineering technologies and methodologies that integrate system performance, safety and reliability across green and automated marine systems. Contributions demonstrating real-world validation and innovative engineering solutions are especially encouraged.

The Special Issue is highly relevant to the objectives of the SEAMLESS project, which is advancing the integration of autonomous vessels, smart logistics, digital platforms and sustainable waterborne transport into a seamless logistics ecosystem.

Topics of interest include:

  • Autonomous and green vessel design
  • Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) systems
  • Smart cargo handling and mooring systems
  • AI-enabled design and operational tools
  • Testing, certification and assurance methodologies

All manuscripts must follow the Journal of Marine Engineering & Technology author guidelines. Authors preparing manuscripts in LaTeX are encouraged to use the official Taylor & Francis/Overleaf template, while Word users should follow the journal’s recommended template where applicable. Submissions must include all required declarations, such as funding, competing interests, data availability and other journal-specific requirements. Authors should clearly indicate that their manuscript is intended for this Special Issue during the online submission process (or in the cover letter if required).

All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process, and acceptance is subject to the journal’s editorial evaluation.

Submission deadline: 31 October 2026
