SEAMLESS brings automated waterborne logistics to LOGISTOP 2026

On 7 October 2026, SEAMLESS will bring its system-level approach to automated waterborne transport to the 1st LOGISTOP Scientific and Technological Congress 2026 in Valencia, Spain.
Michele Vavallo from PNO Innovation will present “From Autonomous Vessels to Seamless Logistics: Integrating Automated Waterborne Feeder Services into Intermodal Supply Chains”, drawing on SEAMLESS research and use cases to explore how automation at sea and on inland waterways can be integrated into wider logistics networks.
Rather than looking at autonomous vessels as standalone technologies, the contribution considers them as one component of a complete intermodal transport system. At its core is a key question for the future deployment of automated waterborne transport: under which logistics-system conditions can automated feeder services create operational, financial and socioeconomic value?
The presentation will explore how different elements developed and investigated within SEAMLESS can work together as one integrated service. These include autonomous and remotely operated vessels, automated mooring and cargo handling, Remote Operations Centres, digital coordination platforms, and first- and last-mile transport.
This integrated perspective reflects one of the central principles behind SEAMLESS: automation cannot deliver its full potential by focusing on the vessel alone. Its value depends on how effectively technologies, operations and logistics actors are connected across the entire transport chain.
By bringing this perspective to LOGISTOP 2026, SEAMLESS will contribute to the wider discussion on how autonomous technologies can move beyond individual demonstrations and become part of efficient, connected and economically viable intermodal logistics systems.
The presentation will take place on 7 October, from 13:35 to 14:45, in Sala La Harinera, within the session “Aplicaciones de vehículos autónomos en el sector de la logística.”
The 1st LOGISTOP Scientific and Technological Congress, taking place on 6–7 October in Valencia, brings together companies, researchers, technology experts and institutions to discuss innovation, sustainability and resilience across the logistics sector.
