SEAMLESS DUC1 Demonstration Day

  • 29/04/2026

Autonomous Short Sea Shipping Fleet Operations

3 June 2026 | USN Campus Vestfold & Horten Harbour, Norway

Join us for a landmark event showcasing the future of European freight transport.

The SEAMLESS Demonstration Use Case 1 (DUC1) Demonstration Day marks a major milestone in SEAMLESS. By integrating autonomous vessels, Remote Operation Centres (ROC), smart cargo handling systems, and advanced digital logistics platforms, SEAMLESS is paving the way for safe, resilient, and efficient multimodal transport. The project bridges technology, operations, and regulatory frameworks to support Europe’s transition towards greener and smarter mobility, while accelerating the modal shift from road to waterways.

Experience Innovation in Action

The DUC1 Demonstration Day offers a unique opportunity to experience SEAMLESS technologies operating within a real logistics chain—from digital coordination to autonomous vessel operations.

Morning Session

University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), Campus Vestfold

The day will begin with a welcome from Marius Tannum, Institute Lead at the Faculty of Technology and Natural Sciences and Maritime Studies at USN, followed by an overview of the SEAMLESS project presented by Prof. Nikolaos P. Ventikos, Professor at the School of Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and SEAMLESS Project Coordinator.

Participants will then have the opportunity to hear insights from some of the leading voices in maritime innovation, automation, and digitalisation during a series of keynote presentations and panel discussions featuring:

  • Jonas Gustavsson, CEO of MacGregor
  • Bjørn Jalving, CTO of Kongsberg Maritime
  • Kjerstin Kleyne Braaten, SVP Emerging Solutions, Kongsberg Maritime
  • Vegar Johansen, CEO of SINTEF Ocean AS
  • Ørnulf Jan Rødseth, Maritime ITS Consultant and expert in maritime automation and digitalisation

The morning programme will also include a presentation of the SEAMLESS demonstration and project video by Morten Ingebretsen, as well as showcases of student projects and innovations, offering a glimpse into the next generation of maritime technologies.

Live Demonstrations

Horten Harbour

The afternoon session will move to Horten Harbour, where participants will experience SEAMLESS technologies operating in a real-world logistics environment.

A visit to Massterly’s Remote Operation Centre (ROC) will provide first-hand insight into the monitoring and control of vessels such as Marit, Therese, Yara Birkeland, and Reach Remote 1 during their daily operations in the Oslo Fjord and North Sea.

MacGregor will showcase its Voyage and Container Optimisation Platform (VCOP) and present a simulation of its Autonomous Cargo Handling solution – an innovative crane system designed to minimise cargo swing and rotation, improving operational efficiency and safety.

Participants will also discover the ModalNET logistics network, presented by the Valenciaport Foundation, demonstrating how digital platforms can enable seamless coordination across the logistics chain.

The live demonstrations will conclude with a preview of SEAMLESS DUC2, presented by the Development Centre for Ship Technology and Transport Systems (DST), offering participants an early look at the project’s next large-scale demonstration planned for October.

Together, these activities will provide a unique opportunity to explore the technologies, operational concepts, and collaborative ecosystem driving the future of autonomous, connected, and sustainable waterborne logistics.
