SEAMLESS showcased automated waterborne logistics innovations at TRA2026
- 25/05/2026
SEAMLESS successfully participated in the Transport Research Arena (TRA2026), held from 18-21 May 2026 in Budapest – Europe’s leading conference on transport research and innovation, bringing together key stakeholders from industry, academia and policy to shape the future of mobility.
Throughout the event, the project was showcased at the PNO Innovation, ALICE – Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ETP LOGISTICS) – and WATERBORNE platform stands, highlighting SEAMLESS’ contribution to advancing automated, resilient and digitally integrated waterborne logistics within the wider European transport ecosystem.

SEAMLESS also contributed actively to the event programme. Vassilis Podimatas, from the SEAMLESS Project Coordination Team, presented at the ALICE Theatre Session with the talk “Automation in Logistics – where we stand”, providing an overview of the project’s latest progress and innovations supporting the development of automated and resilient waterborne logistics solutions.

In parallel, Jorge Lara from Fundación Valenciaport participated in several key technical sessions during TRA2026, contributing to discussions on the future of transport research and innovation. The sessions included “Technology leadership in blue economy sectors”, “Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transport research and education” and “Connected and automated inland waterway transport and ports”, where insights and advances related to logistics, ports and transport digitalisation were shared with the wider European transport community.

Another key highlight of SEAMLESS’ participation was the presentation of the project paper:
“A method to evaluate the logistics performance in automated waterborne transport and logistics cases”
by Cyril Alias, Anastasiya Azarko, Vladislav Maraš, Antonio Invito, Angeliki Stouraiti, Jonas Zum Felde, Vasileios C. Podimatas and Harilaos N. Psaraftis.
The paper was presented by Anastasiya Azarko during Technical Session 2 / Special Session 1, contributing to discussions on how to assess and optimise performance in increasingly automated logistics systems.

By contributing both to the exhibition area and the technical programme, SEAMLESS further reinforced its position at the forefront of innovation in waterborne transport, supporting the transition towards smarter, more efficient and sustainable logistics across Europe.
